Bamboo in Home Design
Bamboo is the latest rage in home design, turning up in furniture, flooring, wall coverings, and more. It's harder, more stable, and more unique than most woods and, unlike trees, it only takes a couple months to replace a tall bamboo cut for market (compared to nearly 60 years for the average tree).
“'In spite of being very old -- it's been used for thousands of years -- bamboo is a new look,' said Houston interior decorator Ermy Borlenghi Bonfield, who installed bamboo flooring in two models in the new Montebello high rise in the Galleria area. 'It has an elegance and purity in grain; it's less expensive than wood, and it's a matter of being environmentally friendly.'”
And in case you think the craze is limited to speciality stores -- places like Expo Design Center and Lowe's (through special order) are also beginning to carry bamboo flooring now. I might have to go check some out this morning...
