Interior Decorating Degrees
While it isn't necessary to have an interior decorating degree to build a career as an interior decorator, it is certainly an advantage. Unlike an interior designer, interior decorators don't need to be certified. Having an interior decorating degree is, therefore, is an excellent way of differentiating yourself from the competition.Having an interior decorating degree gives potential customers confidence that you have the skills to do a professional job that meets their specification. If customers have a choice between hiring someone with an interior decorating degree and someone without, the likelihood is that they'll choose the one that has the credentials, especially if they want to achieve something special.
With an interior decorating degree, you are not simply trained to paint and decorate rooms in private homes or offices. That kind of basic re-decoration work can be learned through training and experience, and customers don't necessarily expect you to have an interior decorating degree to carry it out. An interior decorating degree will certainly provide you with the basic skills associated with decorating, such as preparing surfaces and applying the correct type of paint, but it will teach you much more as well.
The focus of your interior decorating degree, and of your career, will be on the decorative aspects of interior space including the choice and arrangement of color, fabrics, furniture, and ornaments. You could work for private homeowners, for businesses such as restaurants and stores, for offices, hospitals, schools, and theaters. Your job will be to create the environment that the customer wants. Often it will be your job to select the colors and other furnishings that will achieve the right look. Your interior decorating degree will teach you the art of coordinating floors, walls, furniture and ornaments to create something practical and beautiful.
