Do you find yourself drawn to the clean lines of Asian design? Are you especially sensitive to color and form? To energy flow within your design space? Chances are your relationship to space is as spiritual as it is aesthetic or practical. Perhaps you're a natural for feng shui.
What is Feng Shui?
The Golden Gate School of Feng Shui makes its home interior design principles clear: Classical feng shui (pronounced "fung schway") recognizes the "vital interconnection between everything in this universe-the tangible and intangible, each person and environment." As a result, feng shui design means that "when you change a space, you change an inner world too and likewise, when you shift your inner awareness the world outside begins to change." Training--a Weekend? Or More?
If you want to add feng shui training to your interior design school degree, look for a feng shui certification program like the Golden Gate School's. Golden Gate recommends their 5-module curriculum to "design professionals who are seeking greater harmony and profound change in their lives and the lives of their clients." Alternatively, a handful of interior design schools, like New York's Metropolitan Institute of Interior Design, include feng shui in a design school degree curriculum. MIID offers feng shui training via distance education as well.Work as a Feng Shui Design Consultant
If you're an interior design school graduate, or you want to jump start your home interior design business, consider adding a certificate in feng shui to your credentials. After all, you may be among the one-third of designers who's self-employed at some point in your career. Working as a feng shui consultant can give you career independence, since this is a fast growing branch of home interior design.Sources
