When it comes to trends in fashion and interior design, color is everything. In fact, if you're looking for an education or a job in interior design, knowing the senses that colors evoke can help you create a perfect design for your clients--especially in the kitchen.

More and more, the kitchen is becoming the center of the home. Many home kitchens and family rooms are being combined into one large space, and according to a study done by The NPD Group, one in ten homeowners throughout most of 2005 engaged in some kind of kitchen remodeling project. The kitchen is now just as important to homeowners and interior designers as the rest of a house.

Kitchen Interior Design: The Importance of Color

Since the kitchen has become so important, its design and color are essential in the interior designer's quest to create the perfect environment in the whole house. Does the client want something exotic, or something that evokes an Arabic, Mediterranean, or Latin American flair? For this flavor, deep colors like gold-yellows to reddish-purples are in.

If your client prefers a more down-to-earth feel in the kitchen, choosing from neutrals such as khaki or a skin-toned brown could offer just the warmth a client wants. If your client does not the want the kitchen to be the center of action and prefers a more separated interior design, choose from serene colors such as light yellow or pale green.

Interior Designers Know Color

If you're looking to get an education as an interior designer, it's likely that you'll take classes related to understanding color trends and how they affect clients' desires. Knowing kitchen color trends ahead of time will give you the knowledge and inspiration you need to create an interior design that pleases your clients.
