Home staging is emerging as a new interior decorating career path as more homeowners turn to home stagers to help sell their houses. Home stagers do not decorate homes to fit their clients' tastes, but rather, to fit potential buyers' tastes. They focus on making rooms universally appealing. With stagers' interior design help, houses look their very best, and homeowners get top dollar from buyers.
What Is Home Staging? Interior Design for People You Haven't Met
Homeowners or real estate agents hire home stagers to do a quick interior decorating makeover. Interior design is an inexpensive way to dramatically improve the look of a house. Generally, stagers spend no more than a couple of days on each house. They are in much greater demand when the housing market is sluggish because house sellers are even more intent on setting their houses apart from the rest.Home stagers must know the latest decorating trends, but they must understand that their job is not to create rooms that reflect their own or their clients' interior decorating aesthetics. Instead, they must neutralize homes so that anyone who walks through the front doors can imagine living there. Their duties include getting rid of overly personal items, unattractive furniture, and clutter in rooms. They fill the rooms with simple, contemporary furnishings and make sure that the house smells fresh and inviting. Often they offer furniture and accessories for rent to their clients on a monthly basis. Not surprisingly most people in this emerging design field are trained interior designers.
From Home Staging to Interior Decorating
If you want to stake your lot in home staging, consider earning an interior decorating degree from a quality interior design school. If the school of your choice doesn't have an interior decorating specialty, most interior design programs will offer the courses you need.If you are just beginning your interior decorating career home staging is a great way to make connections. Because you work with each client for such a short time, you meet a lot of people. If your clients like your staging work they might consider hiring you for a bigger interior design project in their new house.
