Countertops are one of the most important parts of the interior decorating in any kitchen. They must be durable yet attractive; cost-efficient yet stylish. Today's new countertop options provide an ideal work surface for even the most demanding cook, and their good looks please the pickiest interior designers.

Interior Decorating with Glass Countertops

Glass countertops are beautiful, unique, and fairly easy to maintain. You can find them in virtually any color, and the glass is often beautifully textured. Because glass countertops make a huge interior design impression, many homeowners choose to use them in a smaller workspace, such as a kitchen island. They are very easy to clean with some window cleaner and a soft cloth. Expect to pay around $85-$150 a square foot for a glass countertop.

Concrete Offers an Interior Design Flourish

Concrete countertops might sound rather heavy and industrial, but they also offer a surprisingly natural look. The concrete can be left its natural mellow gray hue, or it can be dyed a number of earthy colors. To maintain the countertops, you must wax them every six months and apply a sealant every year. Concrete counters cost $75-$200 per square foot.

Solid Surface for a Seamless Look

Solid surface countertops give you the look of natural stone with a seamless finish. The countertops are manufactured in one piece to perfectly fit your kitchen. For the environmentally conscious, options made from recycled materials are available. Solid surface runs $90-$150 a square foot.

Earn An Interior Decoraing Degree

If learning about the latest options in countertops and other interior decorating elements appeals to you, you should consider attending interior design school. You could take one or two classes in areas that especially interest you or enroll in a degree program to make a career out of your love for interior design.
