With the variety of window sizes and styles that are currently popular in interior decorating, choosing the right window treatment- be it drapes, blinds, or shades- is essential. Well-chosen drapes can be that elegant touch that brings together a decoration theme, while the wrong drapes will detract from even the most carefully decorated room.
Drapes that Dress up Interior Decoration
Natural light is vital to creating a pleasant indoor environment for your interior design clients. As an interior decorator, you will probably have to select window coverings for every room you design. Your options for window coverings include:- Vertical fabric drapes, including floor length curtains and cornices,
- Blinds, such as Venetian blinds, wooden blinds, and light filtering blinds,
- Shades, including balloon style shades, or shades with billows and folds, and
- Valances, which are fabrics that frame blinds to give windows a softer look.
Choosing Window Treatments with Style
Small windows should be framed with simple drapes. Large windows in a sitting room are a good place to use floor length drapes in luxurious fabrics to embellish the interior decoration design style you've selected. You will also have to decide which operating mechanism to use for your window covering. Cordless drapes are more sophisticated, whereas cord tensioning or motorized blinds work well with interior decoration in offices or other casual, modern settings.
What Design School can teach you about Window Coverings
