Can You Really Study Interior Design Online?
Many people think of interior design as a hands-on discipline that can only be studied in a physical classroom or studio. Although interior design is a practical skill, it is entirely possible to get a great interior design education from home. Whether you are working, parenting, or just want to study from home, getting your interior design degree online is a great option. Here are some tips to help you succeed in online interior design school:Get to know the software: Many online interior design schools use 3D interior design software. Learning to use software will be a great advantage in your career, as you will be able to create hypothetical designs and cost estimates to show to clients.
Link up with other students. You will feel much less isolated in online interior design school if you get to know your fellow classmates and teachers. Discussion boards, email, and chatting are great ways to exchange ideas and ask questions to fellow designers-to-be.
Find a mentor or student advisor. Some interior design schools match students with advisors who have already completed their interior design degrees online and can offer advice. Finding a mentor is a great way to get support and stay motivated.
Buy a drafting table. Although many of your assignments will take place online, a drafting table is great for practicing practical skills of sketching and reading blueprints.
Rely on audio and DVD learning materials. Many online interior design degree programs offer podcasts or DVDs of lectures. You can use these materials to get a break from your computer screen and learn as you complete other activities.
Budget your time. Although online interior design school can be completed at your own pace, it is smart to be realistic and know that being in school will take time.
By staying focused and motivated, you're sure to succeed in online interior design school. Some online interior design schools prepare you for a qualifying exam that will certify you to start designing as soon as you pass.
