What can make getting ready for work in the morning the best part of your day? A spa-caliber bathroom is the answer, and it's no longer out of reach for most homeowners. Though some bathroom interior decorating renovations require major room overhauls, others, such as adding a custom shower curtain, can be done easily and cheaply by novices.

Radiant Heat: Interior Design that Warms Feet and Fattens Wallets

Nothing is worse on a frigid winter morning than stepping with your bare feet from the plush carpet of your hallway to the freezing cold tile floor of your bathroom. Luckily, radiant heating elements installed in your bathroom floor can provide a remedy. The heat they emit travels upward, warming the whole room. HGTV reports that radiant flooring throughout the home can reduce homeowners' heating bills by 10 to 30 percent per month.

Steam Showers: Bring a Sauna into Any Bathroom's Interior Design Scheme

Steam showers look much like regular showers except that when you close their doors, you are completely sealed in. They have both standard showerheads and steam-releasing valves on the walls. You can use a steam shower as a normal shower or turn the steam valves on and relax as the shower fills with steam. Look for showers that include seating for your comfort.

Custom Shower Curtains: An Interior Decorating Must

Shower curtains make a big interior decorating impact in bathrooms, so it is important that you choose a fabric that complements the rest of your interior decorating. Look for a tough indoor/outdoor fabric that is resistant to mold and mildew. Stay away from delicate silks, velvets, and other dry-clean-only fabrics. It is simple to seam the new curtain yourself or you can hire a seamstress or tailor to do the work for a small fee.

If you find that you enjoy the bathroom design process as you work on your own bathroom, you should consider a career as a bathroom designer. Interior design schools offer kitchen and bath degree programs geared to this popular specialization.
